About
Biofeedback is a potent treatment modality proven to effectively enhance clients’ health and performance. It offers a method to address challenging conditions where other interventions have failed, such as chronic pain, anxiety, headaches, and trauma. Biofeedback helps athletes and professionals who feel hopeless about making progress improve their performance. However, the process of biofeedback itself can sometimes become stalled, leading to frustration for both client and therapist and raising questions about how to move forward. These challenges often arise when clients are highly anxious about their physiological symptoms, feel pressured to “do things right," become overwhelmed by emotional stimuli, or are too distracted to focus on the computer screen for more than a few minutes. Frequently, such difficulties stem from clients’ unhelpful efforts to control aspects of their internal experience that are inherently uncontrollable. A mindfulness and compassion-based approach to biofeedback can facilitate change by fostering mindful, non-judgmental awareness and compassion. This approach provides both the therapist and the client with strategies to overcome obstacles that hinder biofeedback success. In this presentation, participants will learn how to incorporate mindfulness and compassion skills into their biofeedback practice, enabling clients to benefit fully from biofeedback without falling into unproductive attempts to control their internal experiences. What You'll Learn This beginner-friendly online training, co-sponsored by the American Association of Practical Biofeedback (AAPB), is designed for healthcare professionals, wellness coaches, therapists, and anyone interested in enhancing their well-being and performance. Upon completing this training, participants will be able to: - Discuss the fundamental concepts of mindfulness and compassion. - Introduce essential skills for integrating mindfulness and compassion into biofeedback practice. - Apply
